Bernex is a low mountain resort which is located near the most emblematic cities of Chablais: Thonon, Evian or Amphion-Publier. 

​

The event that marked this small town dates from September 21, 1689. Piedmontese heretics who had found refuge in the Vaud region, seized with nostalgia for their homeland, decided to return to their country. Having landed at Locum, they went straight to Bernex via the Col de Creusaz where they set up camp. During the night, to take revenge for the looting of the church and the presbytery carried out by the Vaudois, the Bernese people set fire to the camp; they earned the nickname “Bourla-Kam”: the camp burners. For a long time, a procession at the foot of the cross of Creusaz, on Pentecost Monday, commemorated this event...

THE AREA OF THE MOUNTAINS OF EVIAN

Near Lake Geneva, Les Montagnes d'Évian includes the resorts of Bernex, de Thollon-les-Memises andPlenty. It includes about 100km of tracks and many exceptional panoramas.

Bernex is a destination known for its many mountain bike trails. The site is also part of the French Cycling Federation.

WALKS AND HIKES: A MOUNTAIN FORGED BY THE RHÔNE GLACIER

Bernex, located on the Gavot plateau, owes the shape of its mountains to the movement of this glacier.

Many marked hiking trails departing from Bernex and its close surroundings are available. You will discover the richness of the landscape and its geology which date back more than 35,000 years.

No matter your level, beginners or experienced, there is something for all walking profiles!

The main departures are from the center of the village, from the Alpage, Chevrette or Fétuière car parks or at the top of the chairlift.

THE LAKES NEAR BERNEX: 

LAKE GENEVA

Of glacial origin, Lake Geneva, sometimes called Lake Geneva, is the largest lake in Central Europe. With an area of 583 km², it reaches a maximum depth of 309 meters.

Its maximum width is slightly greater than 13 kilometers. It is crescent-shaped: the north shore and the 2 extremities are Swiss, the south shore is French. The border passes in the middle of the lake.

BEUNAZ LAKE

The Beunaz lake is located 2km from Bernex. . This place is made up of several leisure areas set up around the lake. For maximum security, swimming is supervised. Take advantage of the many activities available on site: pedal boat, canoe, swimming pool, diving board, zip line, trampoline, pétanque courts, table tennis, beach volleyball and much more! This space is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in July and August.
